Yahara River by what is now Mickey's Tavern EASTSIDE HISTORY CLUB  Imagine it—you’re attending a lively party celebrating a year’s work by the East Side History Club. You enjoy swapping tales with neighbors young and old while you view a fascinating photo exhibit. Before you leave, you purchase your copy of the club’s yearbook, chock-full of memories about the East Side’s social and business life, colorful characters, and changes over time.
The club will collect memories through interviews with East Siders, then produce articles, books, exhibits, and programs. The club will offer East Side history resources to schools, neighborhood centers, libraries, seniors programs, writing and drama groups, and more.
We want to hear your ideas, to help us define the scope of our club in its first year. We’re eager to include volunteers in a variety of roles, from sharing memories to producing our publications. Attendees of the Launch Sessions will learn more about our plans and volunteer opportunities. Readers of the East Side News will see our work through occasional interviews and articles.
Donations of time and/or money will help us get the East Side History Club underway. To volunteer contact Pat Martin at 241-0895 or pmartin@atwoodcc.org

Fritz and Fran grew up in the Atwood neighborhood. Their stories of childhood adventures, high school friendships, World War II, love, marriage and family are captured on a DVD produced by their children for their 60th wedding anniversary.

Attendees viewed an entertaining tribute that captures the Schlimgen’s talent as storytellers plus lots of local history. After the video, the making of the DVD and preserving family stories were discussed.
