Most of our big events serve one big purpose >> they bring in much needed funds to keep our programs going and growing. But that's never the whole story. They also bring our community together to help each other; to celebrate what's good, and of course to have fun. Lots of fun.
With friends like these...
We can do anything. Really. We're so lucky to have great friends in the community who host events with us and on our behalf. Like our friends at the Harmony Bar and Peter and Lou Berryman who have hosted annual events for us for many years. And then there are all the people >> like you >> who volunteer, donate, organize and attend our events.
Upcoming SPECIAL events:

Saturday, January 28 at 4 & 7 pmSunday, January 29 at 2 pm
Circus arts performers from The Wild Rumpus Winter Circus will be entertaining audiences the weekend of January 28. These performances will also feature the Madison Unicyclists, the Dead of Winter Jugglers, the Greasy Gears and Jacob Mills, ringmaster.
There is a suggested donation $10/$7 to benefit the Goodman Center's new Circus Arts Scholarship Fund.
Lights on Afterschool
The Goodman Community Center's Afterschool program will be participating in Lights on Afterschool. Lights on Afterschool is an event where communities nationwide celebrate afterschool programs that keep our kids safe; and inspire children to learn. To represent this event, each child will color a light bulb. Each light bulb will represent a child in our program and the work that we do. There will also be other light bulbs that share important facts about afterschool programs.
Lights will be hung up on October 17th, here at the Goodman Community Center. On October 20th, we will celebrate this event by giving back to our families with a gift, to not only show that we appreciate them; but also the importance of afterschool programs for our children, families and community.

Community Forums: Come learn about interesting results of our neighborhood Health Survey
Various dates and times (see below) at the Goodman Community Center
Have you heard about the recent Community Health Survey going on in our neighborhood? For the past year, GCC has been collaborating with the UW School of Nursing on a project about how to increase community involvement when structuring the course of research. One part of this project was an ambitious Community Health Survey conducted between March and August of this year.
Eight community members participated in an intensive 4-hour training program. This group then went out to interview friends, neighbors, co-workers and others to get answers to questions about issues such as stress, safety, transportation and physical activity. In addition, people were asked to talk about what really good things are going on in our neighborhood and to comment on specific health education issues they feel are top priorities.
Want to find out what we learned? We have planned three Community Forums to discuss the survey. Please join us at the Goodman Community Center to hear about key survey results and discuss constructive "next steps" based on this information.
Community Forum dates:
>> Thursday, October 13 from 5:30 to 7 pm
>> Tuesday, October 18 from 5:30 to 7 pm
>> Friday, October 21 from 12:30 to 2 pm
