One Family Campaign for the Goodman Atwood Community Center

We had a nice problem to solve.

For 53 years, the Goodman Atwood Community Center has grown as we’ve responded to our changing neighborhood. Fifty years ago, we were in the heart of a working-class area on the edge of Madison. Factories were nestled in the midst of modest single family homes. The edge of Madison passed us long ago. While one part of our neighborhood has seen a revitalization — a theater, restaurants, an upscale grocery store, retail businesses and office buildings, most of the children and adults we serve live in the other part of our neighborhood — and they struggle with low-incomes and far fewer resources. For them, we are a critical resource.

In recent years, the Center found itself at a crossroads because of tremendous growth — community needs were continuing to rise, and we were at capacity even after purchasing two other buildings. A fourth building wasn’t practical. So, bringing all our programs under one roof became essential — to serve our community for the next 50 years. If you explore this site a bit, you’ll learn more about our big vision to renovate a historic building, build a new gym, and create a new Center where all our programs will be together on one campus. Our new home has been designed to support and enhance our work of strengthening lives throughout our community, and of course, there’s a place for you, too.

Whether you meet a friend at our new café, take a yoga or dance class, try out our fitness equipment or rent a community room for a meeting or party, we hope you become a part of our ‘family,’ and make yourself at home when we open our doors in mid-2008.

We will build it — with your help.
