PAST 2003 EVENTS
Elmside Circle Park 4th of July Celebration

Though rain threatened in the morning, the July 4th celebration at Circle Park turned out great this year. Parade, water melon spitting, water balloon launching, pot luck and small scale fireworks. An added treat for the kids and grown-up kids was when the fire hydrant was opened for a cool shower. Check out pictures here.

PAST 2002 EVENTS

Rebirth of Atwood Avenue Community Flower Garden
Though neglected for several years, the Atwood Community flower garden near the Harmony Bar made a comeback. The garden was started and lovingly maintained for years by neighborhood resident, Kristi Seifert. Since Kristi can no longer tend the garden, neighbors joined together. On May 18th, volunteers, including Elizabeth Steinhoff, Kristin Groth, Terry Cohen, Madeline Gotkowitz, Calli and Becky Steinhoff began to separate delicate plants from weeds and to develop a vision for the plot. Want to help with the garden in the future, contact Elizabeth Steinhoff at esteinhf@chorus.net or call her at 246-9718 to find out how to get involved.

Hudson Beach Brat and Lake Weed Fest, June 15th

The city won't be providing a lifeguard at Hudson Beach anymore. Neighbors came together for a picnic and a little beach maintenance.  In conjunction with the county’s Take a Stake in the Lakes lakeshore cleanup project, we picked up debris, pulling shoreline and lake weeds, and spread sand on the shore and beach. There were t-shirts and door prizes. The day ended with cold refreshments and sizzling brats on the grill. Check out event pictures here.

Always good stuff. Proceeds benefit SASYNA. Check out pictures here.

Neighborhood Homemade Spaghetti Dinner, March 9th

It was a cold and whistling windy day, and perfect for sitting down to a homemade spagetti dinner with neighbors. Over 100 people came together on Saturday March 9th for a fun community social event at the Atwood Community Center sponsored by the SASY neighborhood assocations. Throughout the evening, neighbors magically made the tons of homemade spaghetti and meatballs, salad, garlic bread, juice, strong coffee, treats made by the Girl Power club, and ice cream disappear. Proceeds from the event will support future neighborhood projects and events.

Olbrich Park Snow Storm, March 2nd

The weekend of March 2nd brought 10 inches of snow to Madison and made the sledding hill at Olbrich Park a popular spot for the weekend. Check out some cool pictures here.

SASYNA sponsored kids movies at the Barrymore Theatre on Atwood Avenue, Saturday February 9, 16 and 23. Toystory, Toystory 2 and Shrek were shown for an enthusiastic crowd. Movie proceeds went to the Peat-Piper Scholarship fund for East High School.
