On Wednesday, October 10, the LTC (Lussier Teen Center) Dance troupe performed in New York City and beat out the competition on BET TV's Wild-Out Wednesday.

CRUSHIN' ALL FORCES TEEN DANCERS WIN BET COMPETITION
Excerpts from The Capital Times' 10/11/07 article by Samara Kalk Derby:
Crushin' All Forces did just that Wednesday night in a dance competition on national television.

Nine members of the 14-member Madison teenage hip-hop dance group beat out competitors from New York and the Caribbean on Black Entertainment Television's competitive dance show, "106 & Park's Wild-Out Wednesday."

"We were everywhere. We just took over the stage," said 19-year-old Bryan Mayberry, a senior at Madison East, who is the leader and choreographer for the group. "We were well coordinated -- not just the dance but the way we went out there and presented ourselves. We looked nice. And presentation is everything."

LTC (Lussier Teen Center) DANCE TROUPE HEADED TO NEW YORK!
Excerpts from the Wisconsin State Journal's 10/8/07 article by Pat Dillon:
Beyond the Lussier Teen Center stage's double doors, Bryan Mayberry, a Madison East senior, leads 13 teen dancers to 50 Cent's "I Get Money.''...

Crushin' All Forces is a black teen hip hop dance group; "a family" is what they call themselves. Mayberry, 19, the self-proclaimed CEO, founder and choreographer, has directed the group twice a week at the Lussier Teen Center, which is owned by the Goodman Atwood Community Center, for four years, watching new members sign on, old ones move on...

One week after submitting an online application to compete on "106 & Park's Wild Out Wednesday,'' a BET (Black Entertainment Television) competitive dance show, Mayberry received the call he'd dreamed about since the show's beginning in 2005, an invitation to compete. The date: Wednesday...

LIFE'S JOURNEY NOW AND THEN, AN A KITA ESQUIRE PRODUCTION
Play Performed last August at The Bartell Theater

The production was named after two highly inspirational young adults, Rikita Lee (Kita) and Frank (Esquire). Although these two individuals are no longer with us, in their name playwright, Clifton Davis, Jr. continued their presence through A Kita Esquire Production.

Clifton explains, “Life’s Journey’s Now and Then is only one of a series of plays written to give our audience the opportunity to look at how history tends to repeat and how we may take advantage of the messages given us by those who once walked in our shoes. We can always try to re-invent the wheel, but do we really need to?”

The Lussier Teen Center youth that were involved with the play were associated with Rikita and Frank, and the Play Life's Journey Now And Then is a way to not only give back what they gave to us but the community as well. The A Kita Esquire Production group will be the vehicle to allow for the youth of the community to express their gifts and talents in a positive and uplifting way.

Staff and teens of the Goodman Atwood Community Center spent several busy months creating the set, practicing, and promoting the play. We thank the audience who honored our youth by their presence in the theater at all three shows.

Another performance: On September 29th at 6:30 pm, A Kita Esquire Production performed “Life’s Journey: Now and Then" at Middleton High School Performance Art Theatre. This was the first stop of our tour of area schools as we try and get more exposure to our theatrical programming here at GACC. We hope that all who attended will spread the news of this program so that more venues become open and so that our youth will have more opportunities to share their talents with our community.

CENTER HAS ACQUIRED LUSSIER TEEN CENTER

Presented with the exciting opportunity to expand teen programming, the Atwood Community Center's board voted to acquire the Lussier Teen Center from Centers for Prevention and Intervention in 2004.

After months of strategic planning and research with CPI, United Way, and Jack Lussier, Atwood Community Center realized this was a great opportunity to acquire a unique space that is devoted to serving teens in the community--an area of programming the Center has been focusing on expanding for the last several years.

On May 1st of 2004, the Atwood Community Center opened the Lussier Teen Center doors to the community to come and see the completed center and learn more about teen programs that will be offered.
