Building a school family creates a safe and connected culture where children can thrive.

In Purple House, one of our 3-year-old classrooms, we support this by developing thoughtful routines, meaningful rituals, and consistent classroom structures. Greetings and goodbyes are key tools we use to build connection, trust, and a sense of belonging, while also helping children practice important social skills.

When kids participate in these rituals, they learn to recognize and value each other as part of their classroom community. Offering choices — like a wave, hug or high-five — helps children feel in control and respected, which builds confidence and autonomy. These simple daily moments strengthen relationships and lay the foundation for emotional safety and strong community.
