A fire May 26 at Madison Kipp Corp.’s South Fair Oak Avenue facility required a massive response from the fire department and closed the street for hours. Flames shot as high as 15 feet above one of the metal smokestacks and created a large plume of black smoke. Crews from the Madison Fire Department started to arrive at 2:50 p.m. and the smoke quickly started to become whiter in color.

Firefighters remained on the scene for several hours. A cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
