Artist Statement
My style of painting is unique, perhaps most closely related to abstract expressionism, as well as cubism. The images in these graphically bold acrylic paintings often include natural phenomena found in my native country of Brazil. Using a vibrant palette, I give care to using complimentary colors and tints to give dimensional space to these compositions.
Artist Bio
I was born in 1963. At age 13, I began to enjoy painting by watching my mother, Dolores Baganha, who is an artist. From the first day that I picked up her paintings, I found I had the soul of an artist. My formal training started in Catholic school in Brazil.
I came to Madison for the first time in 1982. I enrolled in a painting class where I had a wonderful teacher who gave me support and strength. Later, when I returned to Brazil, I earned degrees in social work and education, but my passion continued to be painting. I traveled to Paris to see all of the art displays at the Louvre, including artists George Pompadieu and Roden. This experience inspired me. I then went to Madrid and saw the work of Salvador Dali. My desire to paint grew even more with my travels.
I have been showcased in many solo and group art shows, both in Brazil and in the United States.
