“Our Ladies of the Marsh” by Lyndsey Standage, watercolor and acrylic, 16" x 20"

Artist Statement

Existing between the ordinary and the fantastical, my work depicts animals and objects in dream-like environments. Each painting’s goal is to combine naturalism and expressionism, to bring to life our natural environments with vivid coloring, intricate detail and dynamic arrangement. My work is not only an artistic expression, but also a conduit for exploration. My paintings impart a new perspective of wildlife, fostering an appreciation for the delicate balance of our natural world.

Artist Bio

Lyndsey Standage is a self-taught watercolor artist and elementary school teacher in the Madison area. Standage began her career in art after moving to Madison in 2021 and seeing the beautiful Wisconsin landscapes and animals. She mainly paints with watercolor, but occasionally accents her pieces with acrylic and ink. She has shown her work in “Watercolor Wisconsin 2023” at the Racine Art Museum’s Wustum Museum of Fine Arts and has been commissioned by Walmart for paintings in Monroe and Prairie du Chien stores.

A reception will be held Friday, Jan. 3, from 5-8 p.m. in Goodman’s Ironworks.
