Artist Statement
This group of artwork is not based on any specific theme. This image group reflects a daily journal of hopes, fears, dreams and championship. Recent political and spiritual confusion and anger have sent a heavier tone ringing over much of this new work. There is experimentation with layering, pentimento or palimpsest that symbolizes the rewriting or the covering over of past ideas or histories with revisions or complete exclusions; reused paper or old drawings reformed, reimagined or sometimes only refined.
Over time, certain characters and objects came to symbolize or summarize different aspects of the daily news. These objective modalities are slowly becoming a language. This show is more of a preview of work to come — fragments of stories to be formed.
The primary medium used for these pieces are charcoal pencil, gesso, acrylic matte medium glaze and pan watercolor gouache.
Artist Bio
A lifelong artist, Robin L. Good earned her BFA at the University of Wisconsin. When she first began her studies, painting and drawing was her main emphasis, especially of the human form. Eventually she became interested in the disciplines of printmaking, especially intaglio (woodcutting and etching).
Recently Good has focused on acquiring a daily discipline of making art. This practice has opened up the use of automatic drawing, which she uses as a form of meditation. Images rendered this way sometimes repeat, developing into their own stories.
Good’s fine art is in the permanent collection of the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art and on display at health care facilities and in private collections.
