Artist Statement
Ever since I was a little girl, art has been my escape from reality. Art allows me to hone in on my emotions and sift through my thoughts. I am 17 years old, and my passion for art has grown throughout my life. Within my pieces, I decided to explore the overarching idea of feeling watched and judged.
My focus on realistic eyes highlights this concept by attempting to make the viewer slightly uneasy, similarly to how one would feel if they were being judged by an outsider’s perspective. The highly geometric/cubist influence is meant to feel chaotic, yet still have a level of unhealthy perfectionism which connects to the idea of unrealistic beauty standards. The figures in my works assist to convey these ideas by always appearing raw, exposed, and slightly unnatural.
