Hi there! Even though I started at Goodman on Feb. 10th, right before Valentine’s Day, Goodman has always been a big part of my family. In the 2010s my mom worked at Goodman with East High School students in a transitional program. They worked in the food pantry and supported the pantry’s then weekly meals. My sister also had her baby shower here.
I have 20+ years of experience working with adults with disabilities, helping with transportation, self-care, and job development, and I maintain strong connections with many of the families. I was looking for a job I could really connect with and feel a part of something special. It was my mom and sister who encouraged me to apply for the open older adult program position here. I’ve really enjoyed the genuine kindness I’ve experienced so far at Goodman, and working with Gayle is a joy. I love the way Gayle pours love and respect into other people.
The volunteers here are crucial to the work we do. They give this program structure, give me structure. I learn so much from watching the volunteers interact with participants. The older adult program is a community of volunteers of all ages. They’re a constant, and so many of them have been here for years. I have so much love for every volunteer.
Family has always played an important role in my life. My husband and I got married in 2022, but we’ve been together over 20 years. I’m obsessed with my niblings, my nephew and two nieces—they’re really my husband and my whole world. We go on regular bookstore dates with them to check out bookstores in the area and they love used bookstores (I’m a huge book nerd myself). We have weekly family dinners with the whole extended family, and I love every minute of it. Any time I can be with the kids I just soak it up.
Oh, I’m also really into sharks! Shark Week, Jaws—the movie and book.
I’m really excited about my future at Goodman, and of the older adult program!
