Walk into Goodman’s older adult program and you will see a flurry of activities designed to support physical fitness, positive mental health and staying connected in order to combat loneliness and social isolation. But don’t take our word for it. Listen to what the program participants are saying.

Each year, the older adult program surveys participants to get feedback on programming impact. In December 2024, 74 responses were collected, and the results were overwhelmingly positive.

“The programs are well thought and geared towards the improvement for physical and mental well-being of the participants,” one participant commented. “I have made many long-lasting friendships here. I feel very specially connected here.”

Survey responses also indicated participants increased their physical activity — with 72% reporting an increase in 2024 due to GCC programming. Many of the fitness programs at Goodman also enhance strength and balance, which reduces fall risks.

Regarding mental health, 81% of survey respondents agree that coming to GCC helps reduce their stress. Whether it’s participating in the Mindfulness Meditation classes, connecting with others over lunch or line-dancing for fun, these activities are great ways to reduce stress.

Survey results also indicated an improved ability to engage with community, with 79% of respondents feeling a strong sense of belonging at Goodman and 84% reporting better connections to community due to GCC programming. Overwhelmingly, nearly every respondent cited Goodman’s programming as an excellent place to meet new people and strengthen relationships in an inclusive and welcoming environment.

If you would like to experience the benefit of attending GCC’s older adult programs and activities, visit goodmancenter.org and select the activities calendar. Most programs are drop-in, so they’re easy to try.
