Hi, I’m Melissa! I’m originally from Sheboygan and moved to Madison to attend UW-Madison. I graduated with a BA, majoring in both Anthropology and East Asian Studies. After a few of years working post-grad, I decided to travel and live abroad. I became an English Teacher in South Korea for kindergarten and elementary kids. After a couple of years, I returned to Madison to be with family and also to pursue what I had always wanted to do. This led me to Madison College, where under their Visual Communications program, I learn about film, graphic design, sound, photography, etc.
Returning to Madison and attending school again opened a new path for me, where I can spread and utilize my knowledge. This eventually led me to Goodman when I saw an opening for a Graphic Design Internship. I didn't know much about Goodman, but I heard the name before and always heard good things about them. I looked into it and really liked the organization and what it stood for.
The thing I like the most about being at Goodman is the people. Everyone is so nice, willing to help out, and genuinely cares about each other. I also really appreciate what Goodman does for the community. I didn't know there were so many different programs at Goodman (TEENworks, Girls Inc., Older Adults, etc.)!
I wish I had a place like this to go to when I was a kid. Goodman is diverse, fun and educational. When I go by the classrooms or look at the pictures, everyone seems to be having a really great time. That’s really special!
When I'm not at Goodman, I am working a full-time job at a retail store. I’m also a student at Madison College for Visual Communications. I am very family-oriented, so I hang out with my siblings and their kids a lot. I also like to watch movies and play video games.
