Artist Bio
I was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago and have lived in Madison since coming to college in 1967. In eighth grade, my art teacher entered a painting of mine in a statewide art competition. To my surprise, I placed first in the district competition. My painting advanced to the state level, where I won first place. The prize was a two-year scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago’s Junior School.
I did not revisit painting until I retired in 2011. I tried oil painting and then watercolor but found neither one to my liking. In late 2012, I was diagnosed with brain cancer. Then in 2013, after successful treatment of my cancer, I enrolled in an acrylic painting class. After completing the class, I decided that acrylic painting was a better fit.
My preferred subjects are nature, wild animals and pets.
A reception will be held Sept. 5, from 4-6 p.m. in Goodman’s Ironworks.
