FYI is a community center collaboration with the goal of creating a long-term impact in the healthy lifestyle choices of its participants.
FYI aims to increase the level of activity and the consumption of healthy foods by offering consistent, intentional, evidence-based fitness and nutrition programming for children ages 3-18 and their families. Since its inception in 2014, FYI has grown to reach thousands of youth and their families, providing active options, recreational activities, and increasing their physical activity levels and consumption of healthy foods.
Get Involved in FYI Programming
We have opportunities for kids in kindergarten through eighth grade, as well as employment opportunities for teens.
Core programming components:
- Physical literacy: develop abilities, confidence and desire to be physically active for life.
- Holistic development: Integrate social-emotional, academic and life skill development into programming.
- Equitable opportunities to engage all youth, including scholarships to help with season fees.
- Youth voice: involve youth in program planning and implementation.
- Family engagement.
Why FYI?
Equitable Opportunities
We meet youth where they are in terms of skill level and needs. We provide scholarships to reduce season fees.
Positive Youth Development
We believe competitive teams can be built by focusing on development. In addition to athletics, participants learn about expectations of student-athletes in high school, build leadership and communication skills, and participate in field trips and community service activities.
A Feeder Program
FYI connects community and school systems.
Supportive Culture
We provide an inclusive, welcoming environment that values diversity.
Intentional Programming
We engage student-athletes in developmentally appropriate, active learning opportunities that facilitate positive life skill development.
Community-building
We strive to integrate family, school and community efforts to enhance east side pride.
