What is PACT & How Does it Work?
The Partnership for Afterschool Childcare Training program (PACT) is a partnership between The Goodman Community Center and other neighborhood centers to recruit, train and employ children and youth leaders to begin their career in education. We hope to provide free access to the training required to enter this field to all who are passionate about working with young people in our community.
This is a blended format training that requires the completion of an online, self-paced curriculum presented to be completed in conjunction with in-person/classroom experience. We'll work with you to find a time for you to get experience in our classrooms.
This course provides entry-level knowledge and skills for individuals as they begin to or intend to care for school-age children in group or family childcare settings.
This course covers:
- The importance of out-of-school-time programs.
- The philosophy and goals for high-quality programs.
- The rules and regulations governing group and family child care for school-age children and the responsibilities of the providers.
This course will fulfill the first introductory level non-credit course requirements approved by licensing for staff in school-age only programs.
Your acceptance into this course will give you access to 2 mentoring sessions with trained Goodman Center staff, as well as practical experience in our city licensed and state accredited childcare program. In addition to your online training, you'll learn from seasoned teachers in real classrooms.
The course is divided into 10 modules. To receive credit for this course you must complete self paced assignments and exams and attend 2 in-person experience sessions at the Goodman Community Center located at 214 Waubesa Street in Madison.
All participants are eligible for $250 in incentives for completion of the course and an opportunity to interview for a position in a school-age program.
