Job Title
Elementary After School Lead Teacher

The Afterschool Program at Goodman Community Center is a place for children from all backgrounds to play, socialize, learn and grow.  A lead teacher is responsible for the supervision and management of their classroom while supporting GCC goals and outcomes.  Working with the after school team the lead teacher plans and carries out daily activities, evaluates the effectiveness of the program and activities, ensure the safety and physical well-being of the children, maintains regular communication with parents, and contributes to the effective operation of the overall childcare program.

Full-time 28-30 Hours/Week (40 hours during Summer Programming), Hourly/Nonexempt

Availability to work Monday-Friday 12:00pm-6:00pm program hours

Required Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Graduation from high school.
  • At least 1 year of experience working in an after-school setting or with elementary age children K-5th grade.
  • Completed two non-credit department approves courses in early childhood education or two courses for credit in early childhood education (one broad based) or its equivalent from an institution of higher education
  • Strong organizational skills.

Special Position Requirements

  • Availability to work Monday-Friday 12:00pm-6pm program hours.
  • Lesson planning and familiarity with school day concepts.
  • Ability to manage children in the community as well as the classroom.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and flexibility.

Preferences

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and willingness to drive a 15 passenger van with children as passengers.
  • Familiarity with State of WI Child Care Licensing Rules and Regulations and City of Madison Accreditation Guidelines.

4K Teacher

Our 4K program at the Goodman Community Center (GCC) is a place for young children 3-5 years of age to learn and grow in a safe and encouraging setting. Child-initiated play as well as intentionally-designed activities are provided in our mixed age classrooms. Our 4K teachers work collaboratively with their teaching team and support the organization and implementation of 4K programming while meeting the goals of GCC in collaboration with the Metropolitan Madison School District.  Over the summer months, the 4K teacher helps support programming which is meant to help acclimate new children and families to GCC’s early childhood programming prior to the school year starting in the fall.

This is a full-time 40 hour/week year-round salaried position.

Substitute Teacher (Both Preschool and After School Available)

We have opportunities for Substitute Teachers to support our childcare, preschool, 4K, and after school programming.

Our Substitute Teachers may support our 4K and classroom teachers as well as our elementary afterschool teachers in day to day organizing, supervising, and implementing preschool and after school programming that supports the goals of GCC’s childcare and elementary after school programs and 4K curriculum.  Shifts available may be half day or full day, accept as many shifts that are convenient with your schedule.  After school scheduling is: 

Monday 12:15p-5:30p, Tuesday/Thursday/Friday 1:45p-5:30p & 12:45p-6p Wednesday

Monday 12:15p-5:30p, Tuesday/Thursday/Friday 1:45p-5:30p & 12:45p-6p Wednesday
