POSITION PURPOSE

The Fitness Center Assistant assesses their customers’ bodily strengths and weaknesses and create customized workout plans. They provide physical and mental guidance and monitor customers' progress on a regular basis. They maintain a clean and risk free environment to maximize a safe place for members to workout. Fitness Center Assistants can work with individuals or in small groups. This position candidate will also work with GC children, Middle School and High School programs and may be asked to provide expertise in group fitness programs of various training styles (e.g. aerobic exercise, lifts, cross-training)

This is a full time hourly/nonexempt position working 30 hours per week. The wage range is $16.00-$18.00 per hour depending on experience. GCC offers competitive benefits. Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

Customer Service:
• Evaluate customer’s physical needs and assigning appropriate exercise activities.
• Build individualized exercise programs and explain exercises in detail and suggest alternatives if needed.
• Teach members and guest basic equipment set-up.
• Monitor and track customer’s fitness progress.
• Greet and interact with members and guests as they enter and exit the facility.
• Explain, promote and register members for various programs, classes and activities.
• Report complaints, ensuring members are signing in, maintaining equipment maintenance records and enforcing rules and regulations of facility.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Fitness Center Maintenance
• Set up, maintain, put away and clean equipment.
• Ensure a clean and safe facility at all times.
• Organize and stock supplies, answer- phone take and deliver messages.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or GED minimum.
• 1-3 years’ experience in recreation, physical fitness facility, or customer service industry.
• First-aid training and CPR/AED certification required.
• Friendly, outgoing personality, general knowledge and interest in fitness, detail-oriented, and customer service-driven
• Excellent communication and verbal skills. Ability to motivate members and clients.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Able to work flexible hours. Nights and weekends as necessary.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to work with customers in-person to deliver programming and participate in in-person team and other meetings.
• Ability to use computers daily in an interactive manner for extended periods of time as necessary.
• Ability to work in multiple environments (i.e. working in schools to develop opportunities, work station at GCC, and remotely as needed).
• Ability to sit and/or stand for an extended period of time.
• Ability to lift, push, pull up to 35 pounds frequently.
