Goodman Community Center (GCC) strengthens lives and secures futures, envisioning a community where everyone has the resources they need to be successful. We have an opening for a part-time Food Pantry Assistant position. Under the direction of the Food Pantry Manager, the Food Pantry Assistant supports the Fritz Food Pantry at the Goodman Community Center in providing services to clients seeking additional resources to support households and the community. The Goodman Community Center is committed in supporting clients and providing people with healthy foods — fresh, local and organic — when possible.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Perform pantry service and when applicable community meal set-up and breakdown with the help of a dedicated volunteer team.
  • Supervise, support and train volunteers and communicate volunteer needs and feedback to the Food Pantry Manager and Volunteer Manager.
  • Assist with required reporting, logs and data collection.
  • Maintain confidential pantry customer files.
  • Assist with food drives.
  • Pick up large donations from retailers and community organizations.
  • Help manage food inventory and food donations.
  • Assist Food Pantry Manager with placing and unloading deliveries.

  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to mentor and support volunteers.
  • Ability to be a positive spokesperson for the Center and the pantry program.
  • Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary.
  • Ability to stay calm in stressful situations.
  • Capable of multitasking in a sometimes fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with diverse groups of people.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Special Position Requirements:
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to drive cargo van.
  • Ability to stand and lift up to 50 pounds regularly throughout shift.
  • Ability to adjust schedule for special deliveries of other pantry needs

Preferences:

  • Multi-lingual.
  • Experience working or volunteering in a nonprofit setting.
  • Experience in the food industry.
  • Experience managing volunteers or staff.

Must be available the following hours:

  • Tuesdays: 8am to 2:30pm
  • Wednesdays: 4pm to 8:30pm
  • Thursdays: 10am to 3:30pm
