Job Description

Job Classification: Part-time flexible hours based on catering schedule
FLSA Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt
Reports-To: Lead Bartender

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support and maintain systems with the Event Coordinator that ensure the necessary procedures of alcohol beverage service & storage are always followed at events.
  • Enforce Wisconsin alcohol beverage laws, and assist with minimizing disturbances and maintaining the safety of customers of the Center and the community.
  • Limiting customer problems by restricting alcohol intake and attempting to curtail inappropriate behavior.
  • Set up bar or beverage service area per catering contract.
  • Communicate inventory needs to Lead Bartender.
  • Work as a team with all catering staff members in order to maintain an effective atmosphere and an efficient food and beverage service.
  • Keep liquor storage area organized, cleaned and secure all times.
  • Ensures responsible alcohol service by adhering to minors’ service laws.
  • Assists with all general catering break-down duties such as such as clearing dishes and glassware, linens and recycling and trash.
  • Break down service area, clean up and put away bar and properly dispose of and store any remaining liquor.
  • Adhere to and enforce all GCC personnel, safety and facility use policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold a valid City of Madison Operator’s License.
  • Exceptional customer service, professionalism & interpersonal skills.
  • Basic knowledge of beer, wine and spirits, and familiar with standard drink recipes.
  • Experience bartending preferably for banquet events.
  • Basic mathematical skills and money handling experience.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with diverse staff and customers.
  • Ability to lift and push up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand continuously for up to four hours. Continuously reach, bend, lift, carry, stoop and wipe.
  • Responsive and considerate of the customer’s needs.

  • Experience working with staff and customers from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
