Position Description

The Volunteer Coordinator assists with the development and administration of GCC’s volunteer program. GCC engages over 2,000 volunteers annually with more than 25,000 hours of donated service. The Volunteer Coordinator will help recruit, on-board, and steward volunteers and lead development and maintenance of the volunteer website and database. The Coordinator will collaborate with program staff to support and enhance GCC programs and services with volunteer placements, especially the Fritz Food Pantry. The Coordinator will also support efforts towards the organization’s strategic goal of creating and more diverse and inclusive volunteer base.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Maintain and enhance volunteer website as portal for volunteer recruitment, scheduling, data collection and communication.
  • Manage active recruitment of a diverse pool of volunteers through listings of current open positions on external websites and community networks.
  • Assist with annual calendar of volunteer appreciation, recognition and stewardship events and activities.
  • Assist with all aspects of volunteer screening, selection, orientation, and training.
  • Support volunteers in all center programs (early childhood, youth, older adults, food pantry, special events) with emphasis on the Fritz Food Pantry.
  • Create and distribute month publication of volunteer e-newsletter.
  • Assist with organization of large-scale GCC events requiring multiple volunteers, such as Thanksgiving Basket Drive and International Women’s Day event.
  • Plan and coordinate group volunteer projects for corporate partners, civic, and service groups.
  • Maintain accurate volunteer records.
  • Conduct volunteer/intern exit and annual surveys and assist with writing annual progress reports.
  • Participate in department and team meetings and activities as appropriate.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties of this position

Qualifications

  • Require to pass Child Care Division Central Background Registry.
  • Required to have valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record to be trained to drive a GCC van.
  • Understanding of, appreciation for, and experience with ability, gender, sexual orientation, and socio-economically, ethnically, and culturally diverse populations.
  • 1+ year(s) experience using web-based databases, volunteer management systems, or comparable.
  • 2+ years of administration assistance and/or volunteer coordinating.
  • Preferred prior experience in a nonprofit/human services setting.
  • Strong organizational, facilitating, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal comprehension and communication.
  • Ability to use computers daily in an interactive manner for extended periods of time as necessary.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to work in multiple environments (i.e. indoors, outdoors, schools, office, and out of office).
  • Work occasional weekend and evening hours based on program needs.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and/or Hmong not required but desired.
