The Assistant Director Equity, Inclusion & Human Resources will play a vital role in delivering Goodman Community Center’s commitment to creating and maintaining a work community that respects and values diverse life experiences. This role helps drive the implementation of programs and best practices that will attract, develop, and retain a diverse workforce and volunteer base as well as cultivate an environment of inclusion across programs at GCC.

The Assistant Director Equity, Inclusion & Human Resources is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the Human Resources Department. Primary duties may include, but are not limited to on-boarding, recruitment, staff development, and adherence to HR policies and practices. The role is also responsible for helping to maintain focus on diversity and inclusion in all appropriate policies and procedures.

This role is also responsible for the Center’s capacity to engage, support and manage volunteers throughout all program areas to meet the center’s mission. Position purpose

The Assistant Director Equity, Inclusion & Human Resources plays a vital role in delivering Goodman Community Center’s commitment to creating and maintaining a work community that respects and values diverse life experiences. This role helps drive the implementation of programs and best practices that will attract, develop, and retain a diverse workforce and volunteer base as well as cultivate an environment of inclusion across programs at GCC.

The Assistant Director Equity, Inclusion & Human Resources is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the Human Resources Department. Primary duties may include, but are not limited to on-boarding, recruitment, staff development, and adherence to HR policies and practices. The role is also responsible for helping to maintain focus on diversity and inclusion in all appropriate policies and procedures.

This role is also responsible for the Center’s capacity to engage, support and manage volunteers throughout all program areas to meet the center’s mission.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

Human Resource Management:

  • Develop, implement, and conduct on-boarding and new hire orientation of employees that helps drive the Center’s mission.
  • Work with supervisors to follow new employees through their first few months of work to ensure retention and satisfaction.
  • Assist HR Director with outreach to recruit potential employees. 
  • Lead annual employee climate survey completion, sharing results with employees and facilitate staff discussion.

 Management of Equity & Inclusion Initiatives:

  • Lead implementation of equity/inclusion plan and strategic objectives. 
  • Identify or create training initiatives to address diversity & inclusion initiatives and work with HR Director to implement.
  • Provide a high level of customer service in consulting with, guiding, and educating managers, employees and volunteers for a comprehensive resource on diversity and inclusion topics.

Volunteer Management:

  • Implement the Center’s volunteer strategy. Track progress and actively participate in ongoing strategy development.
  • Develop and implement recruitment and onboarding strategies to build a strong, stable, and diverse volunteer force.
  • Develop and maintain formal and informal volunteer recognition programs and activities.
  • Work with staff liaisons within each department to support the department’s goals through volunteer placement and engagement.
  • Supervise and lead Volunteer WI AmeriCorps member(s) to meet defined department and AmeriCorps objectives. Delegate appropriate day to day volunteer management duties. 
  • Develop a process to solicit volunteer feedback for continuous quality improvement and share their feedback with appropriate program staff.
  • Orient new staff to the volunteer process and procedures. Work with the Program Managers and HR Director to offer training opportunities and create training plans for volunteers.
  • Train staff in effective volunteer management strategies and support staff leadership in areas of volunteer engagement.
  • Manage the volunteer budget and ensure appropriate and allowable expenditures.
  • Work with the Development Team to develop opportunities for donors and potential donors to engage with the center through volunteerism. Develop and support corporate and group volunteer opportunities.
