The Goodman Community Center’s TEENworks (Teen Education and Employment Network) is designed to support the development of job, social and educational skills, preparing teens for employment or post-secondary education. 

The TEENworks Culinary Educator teaches culinary art and food preservation to high school students with barriers to success.  This position also teaches culinary skills to teen participants and helps run the Goodman Preservation CSA.

Qualifications include

  • Experience in education and training youth in hands-on environment.
  • Experience in urban agriculture, culinary arts, food preservation and/or entrepreneurship.
  • Working knowledge of positive youth development.
  • Ability to manage a team of students.
  • Ability to consistently respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, even temperament, a calm and instructive demeanor.

Special Position Requirements include

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Some evening and weekend hours.

Part-time Hourly Non-exempt – 20 hours/week

Job Reports to Assistant Director of Education

 Position Purpose

TEENworks (Teen Education and Employment Network) is designed to support the development of job, social and educational skills, preparing teens for employment or post-secondary education. 

This position focuses on providing direct service to high school students in the Goodman Community Center in house innovative school day programs (Seed to Table Transition Academy and Summer School) Programs focus on Urban Agriculture, Culinary Arts, Food Preservation, Entrepreneurship and Social & Emotional Learning.

This position is responsible for teaching culinary art and food preservation to high school students with barriers to success.  This position teaches culinary skills to teen participants and helps run the Goodman Preservation CSA.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

  • Develop and teach two culinary/food preservation classes per week.
  • Work with students to develop individual goals and plans in education and employment.
  • Provide leadership for development and maintenance of student portfolios.
  • Work with the TEENWorks Employment Training Coordinator/Culinary Instructor, Assistant Director of Youth Programs, Assistant Director of Education and Director of Programs to identify, document, and integrate assessment and evaluation tools within the TEENWorks program.
  • Develop and lead community building activities for students using best practices of positive youth development
  • Observe interactions with youth and work with staff on positive language, effective behavior management, and youth-adult partnership skill development.
  • Develop positive and mutually beneficial relationships with teachers and staff at partner schools.
  • Utilize a youth-adult partnership model and work with GCC communications and development departments to develop and facilitate a marketing plan to support the program.
  • Assist GCC communications and development departments to help market the program and products.
  • Maintain food storage and refrigeration areas in a clean and organized fashion.
  • Maintain canning kitchen equipment and cleanliness.
  • Ensure proper storage of completed products to minimize spoilage.
  • Coordinate with the Food Pantry Coordinator to manage flow of donation deliveries and scheduling of food processing.
  • Ensure all Department of Agriculture requirements are followed for distribution of canned goods.
  • Complete food preserving training annually.
