Join the Working Class Catering Team!  Our catering program is a classroom of sorts. Teens are integrated in all aspects of running a full service catering company through the Goodman Community Center’s Teen education and employment network (Teenworks).

The Catering Assistant supports the implementation of events in the Ironworks and Brassworks buildings by executing tasks delegated to them by the Events Manager and/or Events Coordinator while maintaining the highest standards of guest service, compliance and presentation, a role model for our teens in training. 

Flexible hours, you choose what events fit in your schedule.  Approximately 8-16 hours/week. Free access to Lussier Fitness Center. 

Job Description

Working Class Catering provides full-service catering with house-made foods of all styles using fresh local and organic ingredients. Our catering program is a classroom of sorts. Teens are integrated in all aspects of running a full service catering company through the Goodman Community Center’s Teen education and employment network (Teenworks).

The Catering Assistant supports the implementation of events by executing tasks delegated to them by the Events Manager and/or Events Coordinator while maintaining the highest standards of guest service, compliance and presentation, a role model for our teens in training. 

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

  • Greet and welcome guests and respond to their requests in a courteous and friendly manner.
  • Communicate any needs or problems shared with you to Events Manager.
  • Help complete contracted set-up, food and beverage service and clean-up of catering events.
  • Help ensure customer needs are met during events.
  • Work with the TEENworks staff to train and support new teens working in WCC.
  • Provide clear directions and help mentor teens and support their ongoing success.
  • Attend all necessary trainings.
  • Adhere to safety, nutrition, food handling, personal hygiene and sanitation requirements of the Center’s Program policies at all times.
  • As needed assist in the preparation of food. 

Qualifications:

  • Experience with food service.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Independent judgment and initiative to accomplish tasks without requiring constant supervision.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Leadership abilities.
  • A solid work ethic.

Special Position Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to stand, reach and bend throughout catering shift.
  • Available weekends and evenings.

Preferences

  • Banquet Front of House experience.
  • Experience working with staff, volunteers and families from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • ServSafe certified.
  • City of Madison Operator license to serve alcohol.
