Goodman Community Center (GCC) is in search of multiple Elementary Childcare and Programming Teachers to help support our growing and changing program due to these unprecedented times of Covid-19.  These positions will join our passionate and fun-loving team of teachers supporting our mission of strengthening lives and securing futures for our elementary aged children within our community. 

The Afterschool Program at Goodman Community Center is shifting to support our community needs of all-day programming for children ages 5-12 year olds. GCC is a place for elementary aged children from all backgrounds to play, socialize, learn and grow.  Our teachers are responsible for the supervision and management of their classroom while supporting GCC goals and outcomes.  In cooperation with the Afterschool Team, the teachers plan and carry out daily activities, evaluates the effectiveness of the program and activities, ensure the safety and physical well-being of the children, maintains regular communication with parents, and contributes to the effective operation of the overall childcare programs.

Job Description

Elementary Childcare and Programming Teacher: $250 Sign-on Bonus!

12 month position 

Full-time,  30-40 Hours/Week during school year, 40 hours during summer programming

Job Reports to: Program Manager

Position purpose  

The Afterschool Program at Goodman Community Center (GCC) is shifting in these unpresedented time during the pandemic to offer all-day programming for children 5-12 years old.  GCC is a place for children from all backgrounds to play, socialize, learn and grow.  A Elementary Childcare and Programming Teacher is responsible for the supervision and management of their classroom while supporting GCC goals and outcomes.  Working with the after school manager and assistants, the lead teacher plans and carries out daily activities, evaluates the effectiveness of the program and activities, ensure the safety and physical well-being of the children, maintains regular communication with parents,  and contributes to the effective operation of the overall childcare program.

Responsibilities

Administrative Duties

  • Follow policies and procedures of Goodman Community Center’s Childcare Program.
  • Be knowledgeable of and adhere to state licensing regulations and city accreditation standards.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and quarterlychildcare meetings.
  • Meet bi-weekly with floatteacher or co-teachers to review plans for the following weeks.
  • Submit lesson plansevery other weekto theCLC Coordinatorfor review and ensure all materials needed are accounted for.
  • Maintain portfolios on assigned group of children throughout the school year making sure to include teacher communication, anecdotal notes, work samples, pictures, etc.
  • Respect confidentiality of GCC families and staff.
  • Attend continuing education trainings to complete required hours.
  • Keep accurate record of trainings and ADP time recording program.
  • Check email at least 3times each week and respond to requests in a timely manner.

Environment

  • Use pre-program time to plan both long and short range activities in accordance with curriculum objectives, making sure to support developmentally appropriate practice as well as program goals.
  • Ensure a safe and welcomingenvironment and complete daily tasks assigned.
  • Work with administration team to implement new programming in response to changes in the needs in the community we work with.
  • Participate in scheduledcleaning of materials and classroom spaces.
  • Maintain classroom organization and rotate materials on a regular basis.
  • Create a culturally inclusive classroom with activities that support different cultures and backgrounds.

Program for Children

  • Ensure all children in program are tracked according to GCC expectations.
  • Create and postchild care schedules and lesson plans and ensure they arecarried out consistently and that they are developmentally appropriate.
  • Engage children as individuals in a way that allows them to grow at their own abilities.
  • Work with after school coordinatorsand co-teachers to develop and maintain classroom curriculum.
  • Visit CLC partner schools weekly in support of connecting after school programming to school day efforts.
  • Communicate with school day teachersto make sure program is meeting the academic needs of children in your assigned classroom group including homework completion.
  • Support children in their social-emotional development using various approaches including Positive Behavior Supports and Conscious Discipline.
  • Assist children in their academics and encourage literacy and math skill building.
  • Support physical activity and nutrition education efforts by leading SPARK physical education activities, creating nutrition and healthy eating opportunities, and ensure time is allowed for children to be active during the program day.

Parents

  • Maintain daily, open communication with parents.
  • Keep track of children assigned to your portfolio group and communicate regularly to all familieshow their child is progressing.
  • Complete appropriate paperwork to assist with increased communication and participate in parent meetingsand scheduled orientations.
  • Communicate child concerns and family needs to after school team.
  • Participate regularly in family events sponsored by GCC and program partners.

Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Graduation from high school.
  • At least 1 year of experience working in an after-school setting or with elementary age children K-5th grade.
  • Completed two non-credit department approves courses in early childhood education or two courses for credit in early childhood education (one broad based)  or its equivalent from an institution of higher education http://dcf.wisconsin.gov/childcare/licensed/CommManuals/GCC/251_05.pdf
  • Strong organizational skills.

 

Special Position Requirements 

  • Availability to work Monday-Friday12:00 pm-6:00 pm program hours.
  • Lesson planning and familiarity with school day concepts.
  • Ability to manage children in the community as well as the classroom.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and flexibility.

Preferences  

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. 
  • Willingness to drive a 15 passenger van with children as passengers.
  • Familiarity with State of WI Child Care Licensing Rules and Regulations and City of Madison Accreditation Guidelines.
  • Experience working with staff and families from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Multi-lingual
