The Human Resources Generalist plays a vital role in delivering Goodman Community Center’s commitment to creating and maintaining a work community that respects and values diverse life experiences. This role helps administer programs and best practices that will attract, develop, and retain a diverse workforce and volunteer base as well as cultivate an environment of inclusion across programs at GCC.

Job Description

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the Human Resources Department. Primary duties may include, but are not limited to processing biweekly payroll, administering onboarding processes, recruitment for hourly/nonexempt positions, assist with the coordination of staff development, and adherence to HR policies and practices.


Payroll and HR Administration (85%):

  • Administer bi-weekly payroll in ADP Workforce Now.
  • Process employee changes, terminations, set-up new hires and complete timely submission of payroll.
  • Administer and conduct on-boarding and new hire orientation of employees that helps drive the Center’s mission.
  • Process background checks and other onboarding procedures to meet compliance regulations.
  • Monitor administer background and motor vehicle record processes as required.
  • Provide reports on new employee satisfaction.
  • Assist HR Director to develop and implement recruitment strategies.
  • Lead the recruitment for hourly/nonexempt positions: screen applications, schedule interviews, review and approve interview questions and conduct reference checks.
  • Create and disseminate offer and appointment letters under the guidance of the HR Director.
  • Run reports to provide employee data as necessary.
  • Process employee verification requests.
  • Administer benefit plans through the vendor web sites.  Enroll new staff, process changes, and assist with annual open enrollment.
  • Assist the HR Director with administration and implementation of training plans.
  • Assist with the employee climate survey completion.
  • In the absence of the Director of Human Resources attend GCC Board of Directors meetings and serve as liaison to HR/Organizational Development Committee. 
  • Participate in strategic planning process.

 Management of Equity & Inclusion Initiatives (15%):

  • Assist with the implementation of equity/inclusion plan and strategic objectives. 
  • With the HR Director, Identify and implement training initiatives to address diversity & inclusion initiatives.
  • Infuse equity/inclusion in onboarding and coaching of employees, managers, and volunteers



  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Payroll processing experience required.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now preferred.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of Human Resource leadership experience required.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to be able to develop and maintain relationships and work cooperatively with people from diverse backgrounds and interests.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Quick learner and strong computer skills: Microsoft Office skills, web based databases and social media tools.
  • Ability to multi- task and to prioritize across competing demands.
  • Reliable and detail orientated.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and also effectively collaborate with others.
