Job Description

Supervises:  Senior Director of Programs and Operations, Chief Development Officer, Associate Director of Strategic Initiatives


Position purpose

The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the internal operations of the center and leading the external focus (partnerships, branding and donor development). 

Internally: Providing strategic leadership and external relationship building to ensure the mission and core values of the organization are realized and supported.  The ED provides leadership to the organization in establishing long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies supporting the Center’s mission, vision and values.  

Externally: The ED works with the Chief Development Officer to build a broad and diverse base of donors, volunteers, and partners (individuals, public, corporate/business, organizations and foundations) and multi-focused stewardship program to ensure high engagement and retention.  The ED works with the Senior Director of Programs and Operations to build partnerships that support program development and further the mission of the organization.  

 

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management 25%

  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
  • As chief spokesperson, ensures GCC and its mission, programs, and services are consistently presented across diverse communities in a positive manner to relevant stakeholders.
  • Oversee organization Board and committee meetings, ensure timely communication, dissemination and follow through on tasks.
  • Motivate and leads a high-performance Senior Director of Programs and Operations and the Chief Development Officer; provides mentoring as a cornerstone to the talent management program.
  • Guide, support and serve the Board of Directors in establishing goals and executing upon those initiatives to fulfill the mission of the Goodman Community Center.
  • Work with the Associate Director of Strategic Initiatives to implement strategies and projects that support strong internal operations and external accountability.

 

Organization Mission and Strategy:  Works with board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach.

  • Responsible for high level oversite of GCC ’s programs that carry out the organization’s mission.
  • Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that GCC a successfully fulfill its Mission into the future.
  • Responsible for the enhancement of GCC’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations.

Development and partnerships 65%

  • Work with the Chief Development Officer to develop, implement and monitor the annual development plan and strategy.
  • High level strategy and oversee marketing and other communications efforts.
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential individual, corporate & foundation donors.
  • Cultivate major gifts and implement a comprehensive, multi-focused donor stewardship plan
  • Oversee development of Board fundraising capacity and involvement.
  • Support development and promotion of the planned giving program
  • Work with Finance and development to implement an endowment program

Administrative 10%

  • Work with the Senior Director to develop the annual operating budget that aligns with the strategic plan and engages all levels of leadership and BOD Finance Committee in development.
  • Support direct reports by approving time off requests, conduct weekly check-ins, ongoing development and performance reviews. Participate in the Manager on Duty training and rotation.
  • Works with other Directing staff to plan and lead weekly Director’s meetings, monthly Leadership meetings, and All-Staff no less than 4x per year.
  • Responsible for working with the Senior Director to ensure effective administration of GCC operations.
  • Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other contracts made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.
  • Responsible for donor stewardship and timely, accurate communication

Qualifications

  • A minimum 10 years’ experience in a senior management or leadership role of a large nonprofit.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in related field.  
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills with demonstrated ability to express oneself clearly and persuasively.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically with a thorough understanding of strategic development.
  • Proven track record of achieving revenue targets.
  • Ability to sustain and build creative and mutually beneficial relationships with the corporate, public and nonprofit sectors.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to foster a healthy organizational culture, to encourage teamwork and collaboration, strong interpersonal skills that include the ability to inspire and motivate.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Financial and operational acumen; direct experience with budget development & management.
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with a diverse group of people.
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, and adaptable.
  • Past success working with a board of directors.

Special Position Requirements

  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for the Goodman Community Center’s mission and culture
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle.

Preferences

  • Masters in Social Work.
  • Experience in community based and child & youth focused organization.
