The Goodman Community Center’s College and Career Exploration Coordinator will support the development of relationships between secondary educational organizations, area high schools, community partners, students, and families in order to provide career and college exploration opportunities.  The College and Career Exploration position is responsible for program development and implementation as well as engaging and communicating the programming to a variety of audiences (High School staff/teachers, students, families, end etc.) This position focuses on preparing and engaging youth in postsecondary and career opportunities.

Job Description


Program Development

  • Assist with the development, preparation and supervision of college and career programming for high school youth.
  • Assist in the development and supervision of college and career tracks within GCC.
  • Research and develop new career tracks for high school students as directed by funding and Assistant Director of Youth Programs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with postsecondary education institutions and industries.
  • Develop and maintain relationships and resources to support teens in need of social service programs (i.e. job readiness, childcare resources, living arrangements etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Program Implementation

  • Recruit high school students who have interests in college and career exploration opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain presence with school staff utilizing a variety of strategies to increase visibility of GCC’s Youth Employment Program.
  • Coordinate efforts with teachers to identify areas for support and needs of students as they pursue related career tracks.
  • Assist the Purgolder Enrichment Coordinator in organizing study groups for high school youth as needed to be successful in a career option, recruiting tutors as needed to support academic needs.
  • Partner with GCC’s Volunteer Manager to recruit and supervisor program volunteers.
  • Provide one-on-one supervision, job coaching and mentoring related to GCC’s career tracks and skill development to youth participating in GCC’s youth employment programs.
  • With the High School Manager support the transition of youth from high school to post-secondary education institutions and/or successful, independent employment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Program Engagement and Communication

  • Communicate and engage families to support academic efforts of students.
  • Work with GCC program coordinators to provide overview of career and post-secondary opportunities to HS students.
  • Coordinate college and career offsite opportunities (i.e. college visits, job shadowing, and internships) in order to further engage youth in programming.
  • Collect and maintain data related to the program outcomes for reports and program updates.
  • Participate in team and other meetings as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience working with high school age youth.
  • Experience with youth program planning and management.
  • Knowledge of and experience with youth employment programs, strategies, and principles.
  • Experience with volunteer supervision.
  • Experience with youth supervision and youth leadership.
  • Strong organizational, facilitating, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage conflict and deescalate conflicts with youth.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to GCC’s mission and values.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Special Requirements

  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and clean driving record
  • Willingness to be trained and drive a 15 passenger van.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours (evenings and weekends) to support programming as necessary.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work with students in-person to deliver programming and participate in in-person team and other meetings.
  • Ability to use computers daily in an interactive manner for extended periods of time as necessary.
  • Ability to work in multiple environments (i.e. working in schools to develop opportunities, work station at GCC, and remotely as needed).
  • Ability to sit for an extended period of time.
