Children’s Program serves Preschool – 5th grade students.  The Per Diem Substitute Teacher position provides coverage for staff’s absences and additional classroom support.  It is an as needed position, that may work a maximum of 240 hours within a calendar year and must work a minimum of 4 shifts in a month in order to remain employed.  If shifts are unavailable, then the minimum requirement does not apply.

The Children’s Program at the Goodman Community Center is a place for children from all backgrounds to recreate, socialize, learn and grow.  As a 21st Century Community Learning Center, we provide academic and enrichment opportunities intentionally designed to be hands-on and connected to school day goals while helping children develop social-emotional and problem-solving skills.


 

Job Description

The Goodman Community Center's Children’s Program serves Preschool – 5th grade students.  The Per Diem Substitute Teacher position provides coverage for staff’s absences and additional classroom support.  It is an as needed position, that may work a maximum of 240 hours within a calendar year and must work a minimum of 4 shifts in a month in order to remain employed.  If shifts are unavailable, then the minimum requirement does not apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Duties:

  • Actively participate in all aspects of the program day.
  • Ensure all children in program are tracked according to GCC expectations.
  • Role model respectful behavior and responsible choices.
  • Help staff supervise children and make sure they are safe at all times.
  • Support children in their academics and encourage literacy and math skills during the program day.
  • Foster a classroom environment that supports social emotional learning.
  • Assist with clean up after projects or meals (wiping down tables, sweeping, mopping).
  • Help with classroom organization and prepping activities for the following day.

Administrative Duties:

  • Follow policies and procedures of Goodman Community Center’s Childcare Program.
  • Be knowledgeable of and adhere to state licensing regulations and city of Madison accreditation standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Graduation from high school.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working in a childcare setting.
  • Lead qualified according WI Childcare Licensing Standards (which is 2 courses approved course in early childhood education or completion of Introduction of to Childcare and Skills and Strategies Childcare Teachers.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • May only work a maximum of 240 hours within a calendar in the position.
  • Must be available to work a minimum 4 shifts in month when requested (if shifts are not available, does not apply).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work with students in-person to deliver programming and participate in in-person team and other meetings.
  • Ability to use computers daily in an interactive manner for extended periods of time as necessary.
  • Ability to work in multiple environments (i.e. working in schools to develop opportunities, work station at GCC, and remotely as needed).
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for an extended period of time.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull up to 15 pounds occasionally.
