The TEENworks Partnerships Employment and Training Coordinator will work with the TEENworks Manager, TEENworks Culinary Employment and Training Coordinator and Assistant Director of Youth Programs to ensure all CLC initiatives and other GCC program goals and outcomes are met during the year.  This position will provide intensive employment trainings, some with a culinary focus to support GCC preservation and catering programs, while also expanding the reach of TEENworks opportunities to support youth in career exploration and employment beyond GCC.

The TEENworks Partnerships Employment and Training Coordinator will follow the program logic model and strategic vision while developing and maintaining an intentional high school program that is rooted in best-practices of positive youth development.  GCC programs focus on academic enrichment and social emotional learning in 3 areas of concentration:

  1. Life Long Learning
  2. Health and Wellness
  3. Leadership and Community Engagement.

 

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Employability Training:

  • Work with the Fit Youth Initiative program to plan, develop and organize generalized employment skills training for youth coaches and referees.
  • Work with the Eastside Youth Evaluation Team to support evaluation training, assignments and placements within programs to complete assessments.
  • Teach employment skills including resume writing, completing application and employment paperwork, and interview skills.
  • Support TEENworks Culinary Employment and Training Coordinator with providing each employment skills including resume writing, completing application and employment paperwork, and interview skills.
  • Support TEENworks Culinary Employment and Training Coordinator with teaching culinary skills during trainings.
  • Support TEENworks Culinary Employment and Training Coordinator with creating ServSafe accounts for students and assist in certification process of all TEENworks youth.
  • With the TEENworks Manager, TEENworks Culinary Employment and Training Coordinator and GCC departments, coordinate training with youth.
  • With the TEENworks Manager, TEENworks Culinary Employment and Training Coordinator, develop and implement a youth employment and training evaluation.
  • Participate in required continuing education hours and professional development opportunities.
  • Assist with the organization and implementation of monthly family events, program orientations, and center-wide events as planned throughout the year.
  • Support a high-quality volunteer management program by supporting and training volunteers and by communicating volunteer needs and feedback to the volunteer coordinator.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Community Outreach:

  • Recruit youth from partner schools and community to maintain diverse teen employee team to meet departments’ staffing needs.
  • Participate in Youth Employment Network- attending meetings as necessary.
  • Assist TEENworks Manager and work with TEENworks Culinary Employment and Training Coordinator in publication of TEENworks initiatives.
  • Coordinate community outreach opportunities with youth.
  • Perform others duties as assigned.

Case Management:

  • With the TEENworks Manager, support employment for youth outside of Goodman as necessary.
  • Support youth in earning high school credit for training and employment experience (employability or leadership skills certificates).
  • Provide employment support of trained youth in the community. Develop and complete work assessment plans, weekly checks-ins with supervisors and youth, develop recognition programs and ways to provide opportunities for youth to improve work skills.
  • Mentor and support youth for 6-12 months in their employment.
  • Develop individual SMART goals and plans for each youth’s next steps with post-secondary education or further employment, social emotional learning, and academic success.
  • Maintain records for each youth that detail trainings, certifications, employment held, credit earned, family engagement, and goal achievement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Special Projects:

  • Collaborate with the TEENworks manager to develop external partnerships for teen internship opportunities.
  • Work with other GCC departments to create special events and continuing teen employment opportunities within GCC.
  • Create special event opportunities to expose youth to career paths and employment opportunities.
  • Provide opportunities for family engagement; collaborate with child and youth programs to support Family Fun Nights.
  • Support and maintain a consistent and effective 8th to 9th grade transition program in collaboration with the High School Enrichment Manager and Assistant Director of Youth Programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Leadership:

  • Meet weekly with High School Enrichment team to stay updated on program and youth.
  • Monitor interactions with youth and work with staff on positive language, positive behavior management, and problem solving.
  • With TEENworks Manager and TEENworks Culinary Employment and Training Coordinator, write and work with youth to contribute articles, announcements, updates and photos about TEENworks programming to the Eastside News and GCC Facebook page.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of and experience with youth employment programs, strategies and principals.
  • Experience working with high school youth, with particular emphasis on diverse on populations.
  • Ability to mentor and support teen learners.
  • Good working knowledge of youth leadership skills.
  • Preferred knowledge of basic culinary skills
  • Knowledge of minor employment laws.
  • Experience with volunteer and youth employee supervision.
  • Experience with youth supervision and youth leadership.
  • Strong organizational, facilitation, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and reprioritize workload due to changing situations.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Calm and instructive demeanor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work with students in-person to deliver programming and participate in in-person team and other meetings. 
  • Ability to use computers daily in an interactive manner for extended periods of time as necessary. 
  • Ability to work in multiple environments (i.e. working in schools to develop opportunities, work station at GCC, and remotely as needed). 
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for an extended period of time.  
  • Ability to lift, push, pull up to 50 pounds occasionally. 

 

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

  • ServSafe Certification (must be obtained within 6 months from hire date)
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability and willingness to drive a 15 passenger van.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically excel and one drive.
  • Some occasional weekend events
