Goodman Community Center | Ways You Can Help

We can't do it without YOU! Each year our community turns out with volunteer hours, food donations and monetary gifts to help us collect and distribute everything needed to make a Thanksgiving meal at home. Read on for all the ways you can help.

1. Give Money

Your monetary donation lets us provide fresh foods in each basket. We purchase perishable groceries like veggies, milk, butter, eggs and pumpkin pie, and also purchase items to fill in any other gaps, including turkeys.

Any gifts received after need is met will be used for other programs.

2. Give Food

We rely on your donations of shelf-stable groceries and frozen turkeys to fill all the baskets. Donations can be dropped off at the Goodman Community Center, during the following times:

  • Monday - Friday, Nov. 18-22 10am-7pm (Goodman gym)
  • Saturday - Sunday, Nov. 23-24, 9am-5pm (Waubesa Street)

Need to drop off sooner? Most food can be delivered to our Ironworks building any day during the month of November, 9am-8pm. But please save frozen turkey donations until the week of Nov. 18!

3. Host a Food Drive or Fundraiser

Food drives and fundraisers are a HUGE help. Could you host one at your workplace, faith community, club or neighborhood — or raise money through your online community? Please let us know you're hosting a food drive by filling out the food drive registration form.

We’ve created a handy food drive kit with everything you need to let your friends, coworkers and neighbors know about this great community effort. Features posters, shopping lists, sample images and more!

4. Talk Turkey!

Help us spread the word about our Thanksgiving Basket Drive. When you talk about the Thanksgiving Baskets drive with your friends and family, you're helping us get this important work in front of new people who may not be aware of this service.

We've created a kit with photos and caption templates that will make it easy to share this story with your digital network.

5. Give Your Time

It takes a lot of volunteers to make Thanksgiving Baskets a success – we'd love to have you join us. Volunteers are needed for numerous tasks to ensure we can fill every basket.

Volunteer spots open in late September and fill up very quickly. If a shift is interesting but filled, add yourself to the wait list, and you'll be notified if someone cancels.
