Community Gardens

The Atwood Community Gardens are Madison's most visible community gardens. This beautiful edible landscape stretches along a portion of the bike path that runs from the Waubesa Street to Jackson Street and runs parallel to St. Paul.

Plots are redistributed from the waiting list on a first-come-first-serve basis as plots become available. On average, there is a three year wait to get a plot.

Spring Registration

  • March 21 » Contract renews are due
  • Bills will be sent out by April 2

Due Date for Rental Fees

Garden plot rental fees are due April 16. The Goodman Community Center will accept payment for the garden plots in cash, check or by credit card. Payments may be made by mail or in person at the Center. Unpaid plots are subject to re-assignment after April 16.   • Online Registration Sent Out – March 13
  • Registrations Return Deadline – March 21
  • Plot Fee Bills Sent Out – April 2
  • Plot Fee Payments Due – April 16
  • All Gardeners Meeting – Saturday, April 14 from 9:30-11 a.m.
  • Compost Delivery - Late April
  • Start Gardening Deadline – May 7
  • Marsh Hay Delivery – May 12 
  • Water Turn On Mid-May (determined by city)
  • Reassign Unused Gardens - June 1
  • Harvest Share – TBD

Meeting Minutes

Garden meetings are held the first Thursday of each month. All gardeners are welcomed to attend meetings.

Allison will lead the plot monitors who will check plots to make sure that they are being used and kept up.

Registration Coordinator
Larry will take emails (1st choice) and calls from people who want plots at Atwood Community Garden or gardeners who want to give up their plots should notify him. He maintains the waiting list and assigns plots to new people as plots become available.

Ralph and Steve will lead the cleanup and can assist in hauling waste from plots to pick up areas.

Marsh Hay
Marsh hay/Straw orders will be included in the billing for your plot. Payments are due April 17 along with plot fees.

Contact with any water system issues.
