Hunger Heroes

The start of this school year is going to be stressful for a lot of families.
Here’s an easy way you can help and make a BIG difference in the process.

Hunger Heroes2020

Be a Hunger SUPER Hero.

For the last three years, you’ve helped us send groceries home with families each weekend over the summer, ensuring our kids didn’t have to worry about whether their families had food for the weekend. We’re still doing that for our program families, but we want to take it a step further this year.

We need your help.

For two epic days, we’re setting up our drive-thru food pantry to receive donations of food, school supplies and personal care items – everything a family needs to start the new school year. You can find shopping lists for each category at the bottom of this page.

5 ways you can get involved:

1. Make a donation of food, school supplies and/or personal care items.

Drop off your donations at the Goodman Community Center:

Days: Saturday & Sunday, August 1st & 2nd
Time: 9am – 1pm
Location: Ironworks building: 149 Waubesa St.

See below for safety measures.

2. Hold a food and/or supply drive.

This is a great way to engage your network to support the community in a safe, physically distant way. Use contactless drop-offs to collect donations at your home or business. Then, deliver them to the Goodman Community Center:

Days: Saturday & Sunday, August 1st & 2nd
Time: 9am – 1pm
Location: Ironworks building: 149 Waubesa St.

Download our printable 11x17 poster and shopping lists (two-sided), and use this form to notify us of your supply drive.

See below for safety measures.

3. Volunteer.

We'll need help manning the donation drive-thru on August 1 and 2. If you're available to help, sign up here.

Physical distancing will be practiced, and all volunteers will go through a mini training the day of so they know what their responsibility is.

4. Make a financial gift.

Your financial gifts help us buy in bulk at reduced prices. Donations that exceed the need for summer meals will support the Fritz Food Pantry and food programs at the Center.

Safety Measures:

We’re taking COVID-19 very seriously, so we wanted to share some of the safety measures we’re employing to help keep our community safe during this drive:

  1. All donation drop-offs will be contact-free. Much like we operate our drive-thru food pantry, this two-day event will be a drive-thru drop-off system. There will be tables and bins set up for you to drop your donations. When you get back in your car, our volunteers will come fetch your generous gifts.
  2. All of our volunteers and staff will wear masks and gloves and sanitize their hands often.
  3. Per guidelines from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, all donations will be quarantined for a minimum of 12 hours before they’re sorted.
  4. Online financial donations are always accepted and are truly the safest way to give during this time.
