Know where your next meal is coming from?
Be a News 3 Hunger Hero and give to children and families who don't.
Summer can be a carefree time, but not for everyone in our community. It’s a time when many families struggle to provide adequate meals for their children. Youth at Goodman are well-nourished while in our summer programs but as the weekend approaches, many of our children agonize over their lack of access to food at home. Our food pantry endures a 15% increase in usage during the summer months. Families from all over Dane County depend on our pantry as a resource for local produce, professionally cooked meals, and high-quality groceries.
Supporting the Hunger Heroes program enables us to send home groceries with Goodman families on Fridays to cover their weekend meal needs. The bags include household staples but also fresh produce, milk, and bread. Our food pantry uses the additional supply to keep up with the increased food needs of our community.
How to be a Hunger Hero
Want us to do the shopping? No problem — we are able to buy in bulk at reduced prices. Your financial support strengthens our efforts, and gives you an easy way to get involved! Donations (of food and money) that exceed the need for summer meals will support the Fritz Food Pantry and food programs at the Center.
Give in person: Stop by Goodman’s Ironworks front desk (149 Waubesa Street) and make a gift of cash, check or credit card.
Give by phone: Call Tom Powell, GCC Development Associate, at 608-204-8016 during business hours.
Give by mail: Make your check out to GCC with “Hunger Heroes” to the memo line. Mail to: Goodman Community Center, 214 Waubesa St., Madison, WI 53704
